Candidate deadline for the Serbski Sejm extended

The Serbski Sejm has extended the deadline for nominating candidates for the election to the 2nd Serbski Sejm by 6 weeks to 22 November 2024. ‘Several candidates and associations informed us that they were unable to meet the original deadline due to the required invitation deadlines, and in some cases the importance of the deadlines was misunderstood. In addition, it is only now, after the state elections in Saxony and Brandenburg, that the Sejm election and the Sorbs/Wends council election in Brandenburg are being increasingly scrutinised, and more information is needed here’, explains the spokesperson for the election committee, Tomaš Čornak.

All other dates of the election process will also be postponed accordingly, including the end of voter registration (now 27 February 2025) and the public vote count (8 March 2025).

Anyone wishing to stand as a candidate for the 2nd Serbski Sejm must be nominated by a Sorbian association or group and notify the electoral commission in good time.
