Meeting of the Serbski Sejm with a delegation of the Council of Europe
The advisory committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities (FCNM) of the Council of Europe has monitored the progress of protection of minorities in Germany for the fourth time since 2001. For this purpose, representatives of the Serbski Sejm were also invited. On 26.08.2021 there was a meeting with the delegation of the advisory committee in Cottbus. During the conversation, the representatives of the Sejm explained details from their pre-submitted shadow report, which gives a critical view on the situation of the Sorbian/Wendish people. They also emphasized the need for the creation of self-determination and co-determination rights for the Sorbian/Wendish people, in particular educational autonomy, control of the budget, participation in the extraction of natural ressources and the right to have a freely elected parliament. The representatives of the Sejm expressed their wish to soon enter into direct talks with the federal and state governments.
